Why I built this
I spent years building the career I had always wanted.
Corporate lawyer in Luxembourg’s investment fund industry. Intellectually demanding, financially rewarding, and socially — let’s be honest — exactly where I had planned to be.
I loved parts of it. I was good at it. And it cost me more than I expected.
High-pressure environments have a way of consuming everything around them. Your sleep. Your weekends. Your nervous system. Your habits. Even your relationships. At some point I realized that most of my time off had one purpose: recovering enough to go back.
I was interested in wellness long before I left law — not as a lifestyle, but as a necessity. And the more I explored, the more I found an industry that had somehow recreated the same dynamic it claimed to solve. More protocols. More optimization. A new kind of performance, dressed in linen.
I wanted something more considered. More honest. More beautiful. With the personality I thought was lacking.
So I built The Modern Reference. An editorial space for modern wellness culture — curated, opinionated, and unapologetically selective. Not a guide to doing more. A guide to living better.
Balance is the new performance.
